The Workroom Program 2026

The Workroom Program is Studio1’s year-round platform for artist development, research and exchange.

Across 2026 the program includes Residencies, Workshops, Exchanges, Performances & Sharings for independent dance, physical theatre and multidisciplinary artists locally, statewide and nationally.

Studio1 champions safe spaces frameworks and actively encourages people from First Nations, LGBTQIA+, CALD and D/deaf and/or Disability  communities to apply.

The program is process‑focused and artist‑led, supporting experimentation, skill‑building and connection.

The Workroom Program 2026 is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body.

Residencies

The 2026 Residencies are funded programs offering artists dedicated time and space to explore, experiment, and develop new or ongoing work.

Exchanges

Studio1 Exchanges are paid opportunities for artists to develop work in new environments while building national and international networks.

Exchange opportunities include artist fees, travel, accommodation and access to partner organisations. Formats include residencies and bursaries.

Workshops

In 2026, Studio1 hosts a series of professional workshops led by some of Australia’s leading artists and contemporary dance and dance theatre companies. Artists and community members are invited to take part in sessions that offer insight into creative process, practice and ways of working.

Participating companies include Force Majeure, Restless Dance Theatre, Lucy Guerin Inc and Dance Makers Collective.

Performances and Sharings

Performances and Sharings at Studio1 provide artists with a platform to develop, test, and share their work in front of audiences, peers, and the broader arts community. This includes opportunities such as Testing Site, Exchange Afternoons and Sandpit, offering emerging and established artists the chance to present short works or excerpts, participate in ticketed studio showings, and gain practical experience in event production and promotion.
