Studio1 opens their doors to visionary dance-theatre companies featured in Brisbane Festival's 2024 program - Force Majeure, Dancenorth & Restless Dance Theatre. Get involved in one of (or all) three inclusive workshops that investigate process and creativity led by Australia’s leading makers of contemporary and dance theatre works.

Studio1 is a choreographic hub and micro arts precinct, supporting the day-to-day practice and ongoing development of Independent Dance and Physical Theatre in Megandjin. The organisation champions safe spaces frameworks and actively encourages people from First Nations, LGBTQIA+, CALD and D/deaf and/or Disability communities to participate; each workshop included Pay What You Can (no minimum spend) options.

In conversation with Access Arts’ Tim Brown, you are invited to join the panel for a gathering that champions, celebrates and interrogates work with, by and for the disabled community. The panel includes Michelle Ryan (Private View), Maddie Little (Undercover Artist Festival), and Annika Strand & Lenine Bourke (Be Iconic).

Dance workshop with Dancenorth at Studio1

Join Dancenorth Australia for an open-level contemporary dance class that focuses on moving your body with fluidity, power and confidence. Whether you're an experienced dancer or just finding your feet, you are welcomed into the studio to move, create and express.

 

Dancenorth adheres to safe physical, emotional and cultural practises to ensure we create a fun and inclusive environment for all. Overall dancersare encouraged to play, grow their skills, find greater freedom in their bodies and have a wonderful time.

 

This class is suitable for dancers of all levels and abilities.

SUNDAY 15 SEPTEMBER, 2-3:20PM WORKSHOP

Creative Movement Workshop with Michelle Ryan (Artistic Director, Restless Dance Theatre)

Artistic Director, Michelle Ryan will introduce participants to creative methodologies that underpin Restless Dance Theatre and provide insights into how the Company dancers collaboratively devise work in a creative environment. 

Participants will be exposed to activities which aim to develop creative self-expression, build confidence, stimulate imagination, improve body awareness, all in a safe and supportive environment. This workshop is an inclusive learning experience that will encourage movement and choreography and enable participants with and without disability to be powerfully expressive through movement.

$20 or Pay What You Can | | $30 for both workshops


WEDNESDAY 18 – FRIDAY 20 SEPTEMBER INCITE MASTERCLASS, 10am - 4pm

INCITE Masterclass with Force Majeure - Application process for INCITE is through competitive Expression of Interest with accessible video, interview and support options available upon request.  Applications for the Studio1 artist are assessed by the team at Force Majeure and Studio1.
