CREATIVE FUNDED RESIDENCIES

PROCESS | RESEARCH | CREATE

4 RESIDENCIES - 2 WEEKS OF IN-KIND VENUE - $6000 PER RESIDENCY

Artists need space to make and create. In responding to the demand to test and seed ideas, to ensure viability – socially, culturally and artistically, is incredibly important for innovative practice. To try, and to potentially fail, adjust, re-consider and re-make is vital to innovation. This is the future of robust dance making

The Creative Funded Residencies provide 4 dance, physical theatre or multidisciplinary artists, or collectives, 2 weeks of space each with a cash contribution of $6000 per project. These residencies will specifically focus on exploration and process. They allow space and time for artists to turn initial ideas into structure, methodology and aesthetic palette, in readiness for larger opportunities, EOI’s, funding bids and grant applications.

This program champions adaptability, flexibility and rigorous practice.

No formal outcomes, showings or sharings are required with the residency, rather the residency is to focus on pure creative discovery.

Suitable for:

  • Emerging or established artists looking to deep dive into an existing project or body of work.

  • Research or artform development around a new project

Creative Funded Residents 2024/5

Buddy Malbasias

Rooted in the artist's trips to the Philippines, Bugas (Milled Rice) examines the cultural nuances that shape identity, perceiving rice as a vessel of nostalgic past and a means to question our perspectives and cultural influences.

Cecilia Martin

Cecilia Martin & her collaborators will embark on a new work that asks: "what do we do with our rage?". Inspired by the empowerment of women moving together and the conflicts our bodies carry, this residency will research the possibilities of merging dance, circus and physical theatre within ensemble performance.

Rachel Arianne Ogle and Fred Leone

Rachel and Fred are developing a biographical solo dance/theatre show for Fred Leone,  showcasing storytelling via spoken word, music, dance and visuals. The work will be co devised and co-choreographed by Rachel and Fred; with performance by Fred, and direction by Rachel.

Soleil Harvey

Traversing live improvised sound and movement, ‘SEED’ navigates the filters and preconceived notions through which we present and perceive our bodies. An ode to the self, an homage to the body, and an inquiry into the human gaze, ‘SEED’ plays in the uncomfortable tension between wanting to be perceived and the reality of being objectified.
